Knowledge and skills to operate light aircraft safely

Our NPPL training program is specifically designed to ensure that you receive the necessary knowledge and skills to operate light aircraft safely and confidently.

A National Private Pilot Licence (NPPL) is a UK-specific pilot's license for non-commercial flying within UK airspace. It is a more basic license than the full Private Pilot Licence (PPL), with less stringent medical requirements, ideal for recreational flying in lighter aircraft, such as vintage or kit-built aircraft, microlights, or simple single-engine aeroplanes (SSEA).

Key features of the NPPL

UK-specific: It is only valid for flying UK-registered aircraft within UK airspace unless special permission is granted by another country's aviation authority.
Recreational flying:
It is designed for hobbyists and beginners who want to fly for leisure, take friends and family on flights, or participate in charity events.
Less stringent medicals:
It has less strict medical requirements compared to a full PPL, making it accessible to more people.
Lower training hours:
The minimum training hours are lower than for a PPL, with typical requirements around 32 hours for aeroplanes, including 10 hours of solo flying.
Limited to VFR:
Pilots can only fly under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), which requires good weather conditions and high visibility.
Aircraft ratings:
The NPPL can be issued with different class ratings, such as Microlight (M), Touring Motor Glider (TMG), or Single Engine Piston (SEP), which specify the types of aircraft that can be flown.
Recent changes:
As of October 1, 2025, a new NPPL for aeroplanes replaces the previous NPPL(A) and LAPL(A) and is the UK's primary sub-ICAO aeroplane licence.

During the course, you will learn about essential aviation topics. Our experienced instructors will guide you through both theoretical and practical training sessions.

In addition to the fundamental knowledge, our program focuses on honing your flying skills, including take off, landing, manoeuvring, and emergency procedures. Safety standards and best practices are emphasized throughout the training, ensuring that you are well-prepared to handle any situation that may arise during a flight.

Upon successful completion of the NPPL training, you will be eligible to pilot light aircraft weighing up to 2000 kg within European airspace. This license opens up exciting opportunities for recreational flying, personal travel, and even further advanced training.

At our flight training centre, we strive to provide a supportive and engaging learning environment, nurturing your passion for aviation and helping you achieve your goals. So, if you are ready to embark on an incredible journey towards becoming a licensed pilot, enrol in our NPPL training program and let us guide you towards soaring through the skies with confidence!
